Book Review: Abide in Christ by Andrew Murray

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Do not let this outdated cover dissuade you form receiving the richness of Murray’s words in “Abide in Christ.”  If you enjoyed Dane Ortlund’s “Gentle and Lowly” and “Deeper,” you will enjoy this classic that looks at the John 15. “Abide in Christ” is divided into thirty-one devotional days and it’s a good idea to use that format to digest the rich information Murry dispenses daily. There are newer and reprinted versions other than the copy pictured above that I picked up at Mckays. Here are some quotes that I wanted to remember below.

“His spirit flows from the branches, this keeping the commands is one of the surest and highest elements of the life He inspires. Believer! Would you abide in Jesus, be very careful to keep His commandments. Keep them in the love of your heart. Be not content to have the in the Bible for reference, but have them transferred by careful study, by meditation and by prayer, by a loving acceptance, by the Spirit’s teaching, to the fleshly tales of the heart” (136).

"True discipleship consists in the first following, and then knowing the Lord" (100).
